Taking into account what has to done to show a single polygon [link "polygons"], you may be able to imagine that doing this for a few million polygons, for two monitors (two eyes), 90 times a second is no small task. Our software is able to handle tens of millions of polygons, but there always comes a point where it is too much for the computer to handle while still delivering a smooth VR experience. So do keep the polycount in mind for your models.
Reccomended max is about 30 million (temp), and that goes for all models visiable at a time, not per model.
